International law & global regulation
We help governments and organisations navigate, anticipate and respond to the international legal and regulatory environment affecting their interests. We combine technical expertise with institutional engagement across international law, EU regulation and global regimes governing trade, investment, resources and other strategic sectors.
International law and regulation increasingly shape the space in which governments, businesses and other stakeholders operate. Rules governing trade, investment, sanctions, taxation, human rights, natural resources, environmental protection and cross-border cooperation can have profound political and economic consequences. We help clients understand these developments and engage with the institutions and processes responsible for creating and applying them.
Our European work includes engagement with EU legal and regulatory frameworks affecting third countries, including market-access rules, sanctions, environmental and sustainability legislation, investment controls and other measures with extraterritorial or international implications. We also help clients navigate the wider international system, including WTO and WIPO frameworks, UN conventions and specialised international regimes.
Particular expertise is relevant to the natural-resources sector, where international compacts and emerging sustainability requirements increasingly intersect with trade and market access. This can include frameworks relating to responsible sourcing, biodiversity, deforestation, wildlife, commodities and environmental protection.
We combine technical understanding with institutional engagement, helping clients anticipate regulatory change, assess its implications, prepare positions and engage the relevant authorities and stakeholders. Our objective is not simply to explain rules, but to help clients navigate, influence and respond to the evolving legal and regulatory environment in which their international interests are pursued.
